STEPHEN HAWKING SAYS ALIEN LIFE LIKELY

In an article by AP Science Writer, Seth Borenstein, famed physicist and author,
Stephen Hawking chimed in on the subject of possible life in the universe outside of our own.

During his lecture at George Washington University on Monday in honor of NASA's 50th anniversary, Hawking stated that while the possibility of discovering life elsewhere is in his opinion likely, it would probably be somewhat primitive.

“Primitive life is very common and intelligent life is fairly rare," said Professor Hawking "Some would say it has yet to occur on earth."

Hawking also compared people that are against funding space exploration to those that were against the voyage by Christopher Columbus.

Stephen Hawking is the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cam-bridge, and a Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He is known for his contributions to the fields of cosmology and quantum gravity, especially in the context of black holes, and his popular works in which he discusses his own theories and cosmology in general. These include the runaway popular science bestseller A Brief History of Time.
